Composition: The name cyphenothrin correctly applies to the (RS, 1RS)-cis-trans- mixed isomers. The material used is however rich (95%) in the (1R)- isomers, 75% trans-. Mol. wt.: 375.5; M.f.: C24H25NO3; Form: Viscous yellow liquid, with a faint characteristic odour (tech.). B.p.: 154 ºC/0.1 mmHg. V.p.: 0.12 mPa (20 ºC); 0.4 mPa (30 ºC). KOW: logP = 6.29; S.g./density: 1.08 (25 ºC). Solubility: In water <10 ug/l at 25ºC. In hexane 4.84, methanol 9.27 (both in g/100g, 20 ºC). Stability: Stable for at least 2 years under normal storage conditions. Relatively stable to heat. F.p.: 130 ºC

 

Mode of action: Non-systemic insecticide with contact and stomach action. Acts on the nervous system of the insects, and has a rapid knock-down effect, in addition to a good residual effect. Also exhibits repellent properties.

Uses: Control of houseflies, midges and cockroaches in household use, public health, and industrial use. Also controls insects which attack wood and fabric.

Compatibility: Incompatible with alkaline materials.

 

Oral: Acute oral LD50 for male rats 318, female rats 419 mg/kg (in corn oil).

Skin and eye: Acute percutaneous LD50 for rats >5000 mg/kg. Non-irritating to skin; minimal irritation to eyes.

Inhalation: LC50 (3 h) for rats >1850 mg/m3.

Toxicity class: WHO (a.i.) II; EPA (formulation) II

 

Birds: Dietary LC50 for bobwhite quail >5620 ppm.

Fish: LC50 (96 h) for rainbow trout 0.00034 mg/l.

 

Soil/Environment: Degradation involves ester hydrolysis and oxidation.
